defensive driving : Most drivers take traffic school, defensive
driving or driver improvement in the interest of keeping points off
their record as a result of getting a traffic ticket. This is the
case in many states, such as California,
Alaska
or Florida,
but in other states such as New
York, Delaware
and Texas,
drivers have the chance to participate in a traffic school program or
defensive driving program to remove points from their driving record or
receive a reduction on their auto insruance.
Typically attending an online defensive driving course will remove just
a few points from your driving record, but it will be more than enough
to keep your insurance rates from rising or prevent you from losing
your license.
In some states, such as Texas, Delaware and New York, virtually any
driver is eligible for an insurance discount as a result of taking an
online defensive driving program. These discounts range from 5%
to 15% and usually only apply to the liability portion of you auto
insurance premium. If taking a Texas defensive driving course,
the best thing to do is to check with your insurance agent to see if
you are eligible for a defensive driving discount.
